【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandarddefinestheschemarequiredfordescribinggeographicinformationandservices.Itprovidesinformationabouttheidentification,theextent,thequality,thespatialandtemporalschema,spatialreference,anddistributionofdigitalgeographicdata.ThisInternationalStandardisapplicableto:?thecataloguingofdatasets,clearinghouseactivities,andthefulldescriptionofdatasets;?geographicdatasets,datasetseries,andindividualgeographicfeaturesandfeatureproperties.ThisInternationalStandarddefines:?mandatoryandconditionalmetadatasections,metadataentities,andmetadataelements;?theminimumsetofmetadatarequiredtoservethefullrangeofmetadataapplications(datadiscovery,determiningdatafitnessforuse,dataaccess,datatransfer,anduseofdigitaldata);?optionalmetadataelements–toallowforamoreextensivestandarddescriptionofgeographicdata,ifrequired;?amethodforextendingmetadatatofitspecializedneeds.ThoughthisInternationalStandardisapplicabletodigitaldata,itsprinciplescanbeextendedtomanyotherformsofgeographicdatasuchasmaps,charts,andtextualdocumentsaswellasnon-geographicdata.NOTECertainmandatorymetadataelementsmaynotapplytotheseotherformsofdata.
